Major Courses

GERM A100 First Year German I 3 crs.

This course is an introduction to the German language.  Fundamental structure of the language including development of the four basic skills - comprehension, speaking, reading and writing - is the focus.

GERM A101 First Year German II 3 crs.

This course is a continuation of GERM A100 and further develops listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Prerequisite: GERM A100 or placement

GERM A200 Second Year German I 3 crs.

This course is designed to build on the listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing skills aquired in the first year of German.  There are readings on German culture with class discussion in German.

Prerequisite: GERM A101 or placement

GERM A 201 Second Year German II 3 crs.

This course is a continuation of the linguistic skills aquired in GERM A200.  In this course, there is a greater emphasis on fluency and vocabulary.

Prerequisite: GERM A200 or placement

Advanced Common Curriculum

GERM V230 German Culture and Civilization II 3 crs.

This course covers German history and culture from the end of the 18th century to the end of the 20th century.  Readings and discussions are in English.

Prerequisite: GERM A201 or equivalent
This course satisfies a Common Curriculum Humanities/Arts requirement for students who began thier program of study before fall semester 2013. This course does not satisfy requirements for the 2013-2014 Common Curriculum.
