Common Curriculum: Humanities/Arts Modern

How does language work? How does it affect our understanding of the world? How does a people’s language affect its culture? Is language the key factor separating us from other animals? This course contemplates these questions and examines major theories about language that are of general importance and practical interest to students in a variety of disciplines.

This course satisfies an Advance Common Curriculum Humanities/Arts requirement for students who began their program of study before fall semester 2013. This couse does not satisfy requirements for the 2013-2014 Common Curriculum.
